SUMMARY

- This 12—day trip will allow you to explore the most important regions of Peru. Starting in Lima; then the city of Arequipa and the Colca Canyon; Puno, the Taquile and Uros Islands; Cusco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas; and the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN LIMA

Upon your arrival at the international airport of Lima, our representative will receive you and transfer you to the hotel. You will have the rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 2: LIMA — CITY TOUR .

In the morning, after breakfast, you will visit the city of Lima, also known as the "City of Kings" to discover its most important places.
The tour begins with a visit to the historic center: Plaza San Martín, the Plaza Mayor, the Government Palace, the Cathedral and the Church of Santo Domingo; then we will visit the Convent and Church of San Francisco, considered greatest monumental complex of Colonial Art in America. Later, we will get to know modern part of Lima, The Parque Del Amor, Barranco, San Isidro, El Olivar and Miraflores. At the end of the tour, we will go back to the hotel.

DAY 3: LIMA — AREQUIPA

After breakfast, we will drive you to the airport to board the flight to the city of Arequipa.
The flight lasts 1.30 hrs. Upon arrival at the airport, our representative will receive you to transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, you will have the rest of the morning free to rest. In the afternoon, we will tour around Arequipa city, known as the White City because of the buildings made with a type of white volcanic rock called ashlar. We will visit La Compañía De Jesús church. Then, the convent of Santa Catalina, a short town with colorful houses. Continuing the journey, we will go towards the outside of Arequipa visiting Cayma and Yanahuara lookouts that offer spectacular views of the Misti Volcano, considered as the guardian of the city.
At the end of the tour, you will return to the hotel.

DAY 4: AREQUIPA — CHIVAY.

After breakfast, early in the morning, we will start the trip to the Colca Canyon. The path crosses the slopes of Chachani crossing the national reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blanca, a place inhabited by vicunas in the wild; along the route, we may see shepherds. This place has a huge magnificent panorama of snow-capped volcanoes like Ampato (6,400 m) and Huallca Huallca (6,025 meters). Then we will continue the trip to reach the “Mirador De Los Volcanes" (4,800 masl) to finally reach the town of Chivay, a traditional town where observe its traditional streets. Then, the thermal baths of "La Calera" (this optional visit has additional cost, please check price).

DAY 5: CHIVAY — CRUZ DEL CONDOR — PUNO

This will be a day full of adventure. Very early in the morning, we will go to the viewpoint of the Cruz Del Cóndor, a place where you can see the biggest birds flying in the world: the condors, their majestic flight will give us a fantastic and unforgettable show. This place will also offer a magnificent view of the Canyon that looks spectacular in the morning when the first sunrays fall on its particular geography. Continuing the journey, on the route, you can enjoy unbeatable views of snow in the area of beautiful and incredible landscapes and picturesque towns such as Coporaque, Yanque, Achoma and Maca. These towns have not changed since the Inca era. We will return to Chivay for the trip to the city of Puno.

DAY 6: PUNO — UROS — TAQUILE — PUNO

In the early morning, we will start our trip by visiting the Lake Titicaca by boat. Our hike begins with the floating islands of Uros, famous because of the unique way of living of these Aymara people. The villagers build their houses on large rafts of totora that are tied by stakes that do not allow them to drift, the people who inhabit these islands live from fishing, handicrafts, hunting and collecting the eggs of birds of the area, later sold in the city of Puno. After this, we will go on the way to the island of Taquile, covered with terraced crops used by Incas, the inhabitants live in the traditional Inca way where work is collective; approximately 300 people work in community one day for them and others for the community. The life of Taquile is self-sustaining. They live under the Inca principles of "not to steal, not to lie, and not to be idle", a custom that has remained throughout the years. The upper part of this Island has beautiful views of the lake, the bay of Puno and Bolivia (Cordillera Real). The natural scenery offered by the Altiplano will be a reward once you get there. In the afternoon, return to the hotel in Puno.

DAY 7: PUNO — CUSCO

This day we will go to the city of Cusco by tourist bus. In the morning, our representative will pick you up from your hotel to take you to the station. The trip crosses the Collao plateau where we will make a first stop in the town of Pucará located 70 km from Puno. The town is famous for its artisanship, in which the popular "Toritos of Pucará" stand out. Later we will pass through the experimentation center of American Camelids of La Raya. Continuing with the trip, we will arrive at the archaeological center of Raqchi, sanctuary built by the Inca Pachacútec in Honor to the God Wiracocha. This place consists of a large central wall with a base carved in stone that shows the distinguished Inca architecture, other walls on the site are made of large blocks of adobe. The structure of the temple has two circular side columns. Around the religious center, several buildings were once houses and warehouses. After the visit to Raqchi, the trip continues towards the village of Andahuaylillas, and visit the church of San Pedro known as the "Sistine Chapel of America", characterized by its richness and artistic beauty. Finally, we will arrive to the city of Cusco. Our representative will assist you and will transfer you to your hotel.

DAY 8: CUSCO.

You will have the morning free to rest or, if you prefer, to walk through the center of the city. In the afternoon, we will have a visit to the ancient capital of the Inca Empire and current archaeological site of America: the city of Cusco, a place that keeps the evidence of a glorious past between its walls and streets. Visiting and exploring the city, its streets and squares will show us its captivating beauty. Our tour begins in the Cathedral, decorated with many altarpieces covered in gold leaf as well as paintings of the Cusco School dating from the seventeenth century. Later we will continue the tour by visiting the Church of Santo Domingo of Guzmán, where we will witness the remains of what was once the ancient Inca Temple of the Sun, better known as Qoricancha. After visiting this site, we will go to the outskirts of the city to visit the Inca archaeological complexes of Q’enqo, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and Sacsayhuaman; the latter, strategically built on a hill overlooking the city of Cusco.
At the end of the tour, we will return to the hotel.

DAY 9: CUSCO — PISAQ — OLLANTAYTAMBO — AGUAS CALIENTES

This day we will have the excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, located on the banks of the Vilcanota River. The first place to visit is the town of Pisac, where we will explore the archaeological complex located at the top. Then, we will descend to visit the traditional market. There will have the opportunity to discover the customs of the people and interact with the artisans to haggle and get better prices. We will have a short break before continue towards the town of Urubamba where we will have lunch.
After lunch, we will go to the fortress of Ollantaytambo, built to guard the entrance to this part of the valley and protect it from possible invasions of the jungle tribes. We will take a stroll through the streets of this village that retains traces of the old urban center, military and religious of the Inca era. After the visit, in the evening, we will take the train that lead to the town of Aguas Calientes where we will overnight.

DAY 10: AGUAS CALIENTES — MACHUPICCHU — POROY — CUSCO

This day early in the morning, we will pick you up from the hotel to take the bus up to the lost citadel of the Incas: Machu Picchu, considered as a jewel of architecture Inca with neighborhoods, plazas, temples, agricultural areas, roads, observatories, etc. Built on one of the flanks of the old mountain in the middle of the semitropical vegetation of the area. The citadel rediscovered and shown the scientific world on 24 July 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham. After the guided tour, you will have time to continue exploring this magical place. As an optional activity, with additional cost, prior reservation subject to availability of spaces, you can climb the mountain Huayna Picchu that offers a panoramic view of the place or, if you wish, you can walk quietly through the same citadel to take pictures. Later, we return to the town to take the train from Aguas Calientes to the station Poroy. There, our representative will receive you and will drive you to Cusco in a private car.

DAY 11: CUSCO — MARAS — MORAY — CUSCO

This day, we continue our explorations visiting the town of Maras and its salt mines, where the inhabitants have been extracting the salt following the ancestral system that comes from the pre-Inca period. Here we will witness its incredible different colors and contrasts. Then we will go to the Moray complex, an old experimentation center to acclimate the different plant species. After this visit, we will return to the city of Cusco.

DAY 12: CUSCO —LIMA — INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT

At the scheduled time, our representative will pick you up from the hotel to transfer you to the airport to board the flight to the city of Lima and the connection with the international flight.
